Virginia bill to drop the hepatitis B shot from childhood requirements was left in committee
Virginia's 2026 session ended without passing the bills CODR tracked. Bills to remove the hepatitis B vaccine requirement for children, prohibit water fluoridation, ban geoengineering, and ease homeschool evaluation rules were all left in committee. Studies on repealing the individual income tax and the vehicle personal property tax were continued to next session.
No upcoming Virginia events listed yet. We add rallies, public hearings, board meetings and other ways to show up as we find them. Know of one? Tell us.
Study ending the vehicle property tax
Directs the Department of Taxation to study options for abolishing personal property taxation of certain qualifying vehicles and alternative local revenue sources.
CODR supports lower property taxes and is watching what this study recommends.
Remove required hepatitis B shot for children
Removes the hepatitis B vaccine from the list of required immunizations for children and directs the Board of Health to remove related requirements from its regulations.
Parents, not the state, should decide whether their children receive the hepatitis B vaccine.
Prohibit water fluoridation
Requires the Board of Health to prohibit fluoridation of water in its waterworks regulations and to include fluoridation testing in chemical monitoring requirements.
Adding substances to public water for medical purposes takes the choice away from each family.
Ban geoengineering
Prohibits any person from intentionally releasing chemicals or substances into the atmosphere to affect temperature, weather, or sunlight, subject to civil penalties.
Families should not be subjected to deliberate atmospheric interventions without their knowledge or consent.
Ease homeschool evaluation rules
Allows a homeschool student's academic progress evaluation letter to be submitted by a person with a bachelor's degree or higher, instead of the current master's degree requirement.
Homeschooling families should face fewer hurdles in meeting state requirements.
Study repealing the state income tax
Requests the Department of Taxation to study the impact of repealing the individual income tax and report its findings.
CODR supports eliminating the income tax and is watching what this study recommends.
