Indiana bill to bar required medical interventions for jobs or admission died in the 2026 session
Indiana's 2026 session ended without action on the medical freedom bills CODR tracked. One bill would have barred requiring medical interventions for jobs, entry, or benefits. Another would have protected employees who refuse an immunization. Other bills would have limited local health departments' food rules and abolished property taxes.

Ban required medical interventions
Provides that no person may require an individual to undergo a medical intervention as a condition of employment, entrance, admission, compensation, benefits, or participation, or punish someone who refuses. Also prohibits adding a chemical to a public water supply in certain circumstances.
No one should lose a job, schooling, or access to public life for declining a medical intervention.
Protect workers who refuse vaccines
Provides that an employer may require an immunization only if it respects the employee's right to refuse. It protects employees from coercion or adverse action for refusing, with a $5,000 civil penalty per violation.
Workers should never have to choose between their livelihood and their own medical decisions.
Limit local overreach on food rules
Creates an Indiana food protection panel to hear appeals of local health enforcement actions. It also bars local health departments from imposing standards stricter than the state's minimum sanitary standards.
Small food producers deserve consistent rules and a fair appeal when local officials go beyond state standards.
Abolish property taxes
Abolishes the assessment of tangible property after December 31, 2026, and the imposition of property taxes after December 31, 2027. It also restricts new debt backed by property taxes.
Families should be able to own their homes and land without paying rent to the government.
